Wastewater Facility That Won’t Waste Your Time or Money

We’re a small business with big aspirations. Since our founding in 2010, we’ve been dedicated to providing exceptional support to the oil and gas industry. Our water treatment method is so time- and cost-effective that the price of oilfield water treatment and disposal can be kept affordable for oil and gas producers in the area. The fact that we are able to create clean water also helps to keep the amount of space available to producers for disposal at a level where water can be accepted year round.

Protecting the Environment

Polar Bear Water Treatment owes so much of our process to Mother Nature and naturally occurring conditions to safely freeze and desalinate wastewater and elevate our evaporative process. We take a lot of pride in being an environmentally friendly facility that creates new sources of reusable water. In addition to purifying and evaporating oilfield produced water and frac flowback, we always go the extra mile to ensure our facility is environmentally friendly.

We’ve incorporated controls that prevent groundwater pollution and check our leak collection and monitoring wells regularly to make sure no water has escaped. Our separation ponds play a crucial role in our technology process by separating and removing the oil and most solids from our wastewater stream. This system enhances Polar Bear's ability to conduct the freezing technology when weather conditions are conducive.

Polar Bear Animal Protection

With an endangered species in our name, you can be sure that we do everything we can to protect wildlife and livestock that might enter our property. Polar Bear's separation ponds are secured with the eco-friendly  duck netting to prevent and protect migratory birds from entering an oily pond. Our facility is also securely fenced to prevent wildlife and livestock from entering and consuming water of poor quality.

PBWT Facility

In June 2010, Polar Bear Water Treatment, LLC was formed in the State of Wyoming in June 2010 with the mission to provide a high-quality, affordable water disposal service for the oil and gas industry.  The facility was approved for construction by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (Permit No. 11-394), and a WDEQ air quality permit waiver (WY-12092) was also obtained.  In September 2012, the facility received approval from the WDEQ to commence operations, and has been continuously in operation since that time.  A second WDEQ Permit to Construct (14-082) was approved in July 2014, to expand the facility by adding additional holding ponds and to allow Polar Bear to accept high sediment, water-based, oil-free drilling fluids.

Polar Bear is currently engaged in the permitting process  to further expand its operations in 2019.

The Polar Bear Water Treatment FTE® Facility is a state of the art oilfield wastewater treatment and disposal facility.  The receiving area of the facility is designed to allow easy access to water trucks offloading produced water and water-based drilling fluids. Trucks enter the facility through a gate in the southeastern portion of the property to approach the unloading tanks. Samples from the trucks are taken before offloading and are centrifuged to determine the percentage of solids in the fluid. Disposal rates are based on the volume of solids in the fluid that is being offloaded.  A clean out station is located near the offloading site for water haulers to rinse out their trucks before returning to customers.  After unloading, the trucks exit the facility through a second gate nearby. The facility includes a produced water unloading/condensate loading area, oil/water separation ponds, holding ponds, operator quarters, and a shop/office/ laboratory. The facility is fenced for security and staffed whenever it is in operation for additional security.

Plant operators and supervisory personnel are on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round.  Gates are manually opened at 8:00 AM to allow truck access, and are manually closed and locked at 8:00 PM each day to secure the facility.  After hour deliveries are accepted with prior notification from the company or the water hauler by notifying plant operators via the site phone.

Freeze-Thaw Evaporation - Water Treatment Technology Description

The Polar Bear Water Treatment FTE® Facility utilizes a unique water treatment technology called the Freeze-Thaw/Evaporation (FTE®) Process to desalinate produced water.   Enhanced evaporation is used during summer months, while a freeze-crystallization technology is applied throughout the winter months.  This pairing of technologies allows Polar Bear to conduct disposal operations on a year round basis and to create a new, desalinated water source that consistently meets environmental guidelines for beneficial reuse.  This water supply can be utilized by producers for drilling and dust abatement on lease roads, and by landowners for irrigation. The facility consists of a produced water unloading/condensate loading area, an oil/water separation facility, three separation ponds, thirteen holding ponds, operator quarters, shop, office, laboratory, leach field and related piping, individual leak detection and collection systems for each pond, and a network of thirteen groundwater monitoring wells, pump sheds, and related electrical equipment.  The facility is fenced and gated for security.

Beneficial Use Products

The Polar Bear Water Treatment FTE® Facility capitalizes on environmental conditions, an experienced staff, and a well-established and environmentally-friendly treatment technology to create a new source of re-usable water that can be used beneficially to support drilling operations.  Customers who have utilized the FTE® Process for produced water treatment have been able to reuse the water for drilling, cement mix, dust abatement, and irrigation.  Please contact the Polar Bear Water Treatment Office for a "fresh" water price quote.
